Module: a unit of an online course
A module is a section of an online course, usually a group of lessons on one topic; providers count them instead of, or beside, hours. As of 2026-09-25.
Runway Academy lists its courses by module count, from one to ten. Full Sail DC3's filmmaking course has three modules. Higgsfield's courses are chaptered into sections to follow shot by shot.
A module count says how a course is divided, not how long it takes: one module can be a few minutes or an evening's work.
Where a page gives both modules and minutes, as Higgsfield's does, the minutes are the better guide to time.
Modules also mark where a learner can stop and come back, which suits self-paced study.
Runway pairs each module count with a level, so a one-module beginner course and a ten-module one can be told apart before enrolling.
