Academic units: credit for a university course
Academic units, or credits, are the weight a university gives a course toward a qualification; they are set by the institution and recorded on a transcript. As of 2026-09-25.
UCLA Extension's AI Toolsets and Workflows for Creative Production carries four units. UW-Stout's AI Assisted Film and Video Production is a course within the university that its news release said would launch in summer 2026.
Units are what separate a university course from a certificate course: they can count toward a certificate programme or degree at that institution.
Whether units transfer to another institution is decided by the receiving one, not by the course.
For someone planning a career change, units are worth more on paper; for someone making a first film, the course content matters more.
University courses also come with the institution's calendar: fixed start dates, enrolment deadlines and limited places, which UCLA Extension's page notes by advising early enrolment.
The course pages read here do not say what grade is needed to earn the units, which the institution's own rules would set out.
Neither of the two university courses on the register names a certificate of its own; the credit is the record the course leaves.
